Egypt, S&P Global Explore Collaboration in Methane Emissions Reduction

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla has met with Daniel Yergin, the Vice Chairman of S&P Global and the Co-Chairman of CERAWeek, to explore bilateral cooperation to reduce methane emissions in the Egyptian petroleum sector.

During the meeting, El Molla praised the extended cooperation with S&P Global especially in energy transition and emissions reduction in addition to its role in the Decarbonization Day held during COP27. 

Also, El Molla affirmed that the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, attaches the utmost importance to reducing methane emissions in the frame of Egypt’s membership in the Global Methane Pledge. 

Additionally, the meeting tackled the progress of the study provided by the organization to develop carbon capture and storage centers in Egypt as well as the studies provided to East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF). 

For his part, Yergin hailed the fruitful collaboration with Egyptian petroleum sector and the Ministry, highlighting that he looks forward to their positive participation in the CERAWeek conference in March 2024.
