The Automatic Fuel Pricing Committee has decided to raise prices of all types of Octane gasoline, Diesel, and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for cars, effective October 17.
According to the decision, fuel prices at the pump will be as follows:
- 95 Octane Gasoline: EGP 21.00 per liter compared to EGP 19
- 92 Octane Gasoline: EGP 19.25 per liter compared to EGP 17.25
- 80 Octane Gasoline: EGP 17.75 per liter compared to EGP 15.75
- Diesel: EGP 17.50 per liter compared to EGP 15.50
- Compressed Natural Gas for Cars: EGP10 compared to EGP 7
In addition, the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) announced new prices for butane gas cylinders:
- Domestic cylinder (12.5 kg): EGP 225
- Commercial cylinder (25 kg): EGP 450
- Bulk sale price: EGP 18,000 per ton
It further announced that the selling price of natural gas supplied to brick kilns (factories) is set at EGP 250 per one million British thermal units (MMBtu), based on a mazut (fuel oil) price of EGP 12,500 per ton.
This is the second time the government has hiked fuel prices in 2025, and it said it will “freeze the prices without any increases for a minimum of one year amid the ongoing developments locally, regionally, and globally,” according to a statement by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR).
Meanwhile, noted the statement, the petroleum sector is intensifying efforts to operate refineries at maximum capacity, settle outstanding payments to foreign partners, and introduce incentives to attract further investment.
Fuel prices are calculated by the committee using a formula that factors in international oil prices and the exchange rate of the Egyptian pound against the U.S. dollar.
Under its structural reform agreement with the IMF, Egypt is committed to phasing out fuel subsidies by the end of 2025. However, the government stated it will continue subsidizing Diesel—the most widely used fuel—even if this requires raising prices of other fuels above cost to help offset the subsidy.
