Egypt Gas Company has begun the installation of natural gas meters in households in Kafr El Zayat, the Mayor of Kafr El Zayat, Othman Shaalan, stated, according to Ahram Gate.

The city has a contract with Egypt Gas Company for the project. Kafr El Zayat is located in the Nile Delta to the West of Tanta.

The total number of households attached to Egypt’s natural gas grid rose to over eight million in 2017, Amwal Al Ghad reported earlier this year.

The Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) aims to increase this number to nine million households in 2018, the Chairman of EGAS, Osama El Bakly, told Amwal Al Ghad.

The Finance Ministry recently released an additional EGP 40 million to the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to further the project, Egypt Today reports. Both EGAS and Egypt Gas Company fall under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.
