Egypt will officially announce its candidacy for Chair of International Gas Union for 2028-2031 term this week. The Egyptian Gas Association will make the announcement during the ongoing IGU executive committee meeting in Istanbul, which is being attended by more than 150 members.
The Egyptian Gas Association delegation is led by its Chairman, Eng. Khaled Abubakr, and Eng. Mohamed Fouad, the Secretary General of the Association, Founder and CEO of Egypt Oil and Gas (EOG) Group and head of the IGU Marketing and Communication Committee.
In Egypt’s candidacy for IGU leadership, Eng. Khaled Abubakr, Chairman of TAQA Arabia and IGU Regional Coordinator, is contending for the position of President. Eng. Karim Shaaban, Co-founder and CEO of Rosetta Energy and Head of the Project Committee at the Egyptian Gas Association, is vying for the role of Chairman of the Coordination Committee, while Mohamed Fouad is heading the National Organization Committee.
During the meeting in Istanbul, the Egyptian delegation is also going to extend invitations and make a presentation to IGU members, encouraging their attendance at the upcoming IGU Council meeting scheduled to take place in Cairo in October. It is during this upcoming meeting that the election for the new chair of the IGU is expected to take place.
During their presence at the IGU Executive Committee meeting, Abubakr, an esteemed executive committee member and regional coordinator for Africa, is slated to engage in a series of activities aimed at updating members on critical industry developments across the African continent.
Simultaneously, Fouad, at the helm of the IGU Marketing and Communication Committee, is set to underscore the committee’s significant achievements in the preceding period and outline its ambitious plans for the future.
