Egypt and Nigeria held talks to explore closer cooperation in the mining sector during a meeting held on the sidelines of the Egypt‑United Kingdom (UK) Business Mission’s visit to London, according to a statement by the ministry.
The talks between Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi and the Nigerian Minister of Solid Minerals Development Henry Dele Alake, underscored a mutual desire to strengthen cooperation and exchange technical expertise in mining between the two countries. The ministers reviewed ongoing efforts in both countries to modernize the sector and attract new investments.
These efforts included regulatory reforms, investment-friendly policies, and incentive schemes designed to encourage the participation of small and medium-sized companies, boost mineral exploration, and promote the economic development of mineral resources.
Moreover, they exchanged views on ways to support value‑added industries by encouraging mineral processing and manufacturing based on extracted ores, rather than relying solely on raw material exports.
During the meeting, Badawi invited Alake to take part in the Egypt Mining Forum scheduled for September 2026, emphasizing the importance of sharing experience and deepening Egyptian‑African partnerships in mining.
The cooperation between the two African countries capitaliezs on Egypt’s requests in the African Mining Week 2025 in Cape Town for joint African initiatives such as coordinated industrial strategies to move the continent from an exporter of raw ores to an exporter of value-added products.
