Egypt, Libya Discuss Electricity Grid Interconnectivity

Egyptian and Libyan officials met to discuss connecting their  electricity grids and other ways to enhance cooperation in the energy sector, Al Mal News reports.

The Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Shaker, hosted the Head of the Libya General Electric Company, Ali Sayes, in Cairo for the talks, the newspaper reports.

Shaker indicated that Egypt is ready to support Libya as it seeks to rebuild its electricity sector, the Libya Herald reports.

The minister also emphasized the importance of linking the electricity grids between the two countries.

Sayes also expressed interest in increased cooperation and noted that Libya could benefit from Egypt’s expertise, Al Mal News reports.

Egypt has pursued interconnectivity projects with both Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

The minister previously indicated that Egypt could begin electricity exports as early as next year, Daily News Egypt previously reported.
