Egypt Imports 60% of Butane Consumption

Egyptian butane imports during the first three months in 2019 were close to 60% of the country’s butane cylinders, Abed Ezz El Regal, CEO of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), told Amwal Al Ghad.

Egypt consumes around 388,000 tons of butane monthly, Ezz El Regal noted, adding that the country produces around 170,000 tons of butane from governmental refineries, covering a part of the local market’s demands.

The North African country imports around 240,000 of butane per month in order to cover the local market’s needs, Ezz El Regal said. He also mentioned that the growth of crude oil production will contribute to increasing the refining capacities and securing the local market’s fuel needs.

Local refineries produce around 38 million tons per year of petroleum products, covering from 50% to 70% of the local market’s fuel demands.
