Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla has met with Cristina Lobillo, Director for the Energy Platform Task Force of the European Commission, to discuss enhancing collaboration between Egypt and the European Union (EU) in reducing emissions, hydrogen production, and preparations for COP 28.
The meeting was attended by Christian Berger, the EU’s Ambassador to Egypt, and other Egyptian petroleum officials.
The meeting witnessed an invitation to Egypt to take part in the initiative and events regarding usage efficiency and emissions reduction that will be launched by the EU during COP 28.
For his part, El Molla welcomed this invitation, expressing his appreciation for the successful partnership with the EU and its keenness to support the Egyptian petroleum sector in the field of energy and emissions reduction.
Also, the meeting addressed a presentation about the efforts towards implementing the initiatives of emissions reduction launched during COP 27. They also affirmed the necessity of working together in availing the needed finances for the execution of emissions reduction projects.
Moreover, they showcased the EU’s efforts to accelerate the energy transition, including the required rules and legislations. This is in addition to increasing the contribution of renewable energy to the energy mix and benefiting from carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies.
El Molla pointed to the importance of directing the investments towards construction of hydrogen pipelines to contain the expected production of hydrogen.
