Egypt, Cyprus Explore Bilateral Cooperation in Energy Security, Climate Action at COP 28  

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla has held a meeting with Cypriot Minister of Energy, Commerce, and Industry George Papanastasiou, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in the field of energy as well as efforts to ensure energy security while reducing emissions and removing carbon from natural gas.

The meeting was held within the framework of active participation at COP28 taking place in the UAE.

The meeting emphasized the importance of natural gas as a transitional fuel in the global energy mix in the long term.

The two ministers also discussed the progress of plans to develop the Cypriot Aphrodite field and the results of meetings held between work teams from both sides.

Moreover, the meeting focused on the transportation of gas produced from the Aphrodite field to liquefaction stations in Egypt for re-export to Europe.
