Egypt consumes around 1.18 million tons of diesel on a monthly basis, Abed Ezz El Regal, CEO of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), told Amwal Al Ghad.
Diesel production in Egypt is estimated at 545,000 tons per month, which is produced from state owned and private owned refineries and covers parts of the local market’s demands, Ezz El Regal noted.
The country exports around 50% of the local market’s needs, Ezz El Regal stated.
Most of Egypt’s diesel production caters to citizens and electricity generating power plants, which use diesel side by side to natural gas.
Securing petroleum products and natural gas comes on top of the priorities of the Ministry of Petroleum’s strategy in order to meet the needs of different economic sectors.
