On behalf of the President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi participated in the Africa Energy Summit held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania under the slogan “The Mission 300” which aims at providing electricity access to 300 million people by 2030.
Launched by the World Bank Group and the African Development Bank in collaboration with global partners in April 2024, the initiative aims to expand energy access, leveraging innovative technology and finance to accelerate the continent’s transition to clean energy.
The initiative is a critical step towards overcoming the energy crisis in the continent as it is estimated that 600 million Africans are lacking access to electricity, representing 83% of the world’s energy deprived.
The summit brings together heads of state and government, regional and international banks, international partners, private institutions, energy experts, civil society organizations and members of academia to discuss solutions needed to achieve safe and reliable access to energy and a comprehensive, fair and sustainable energy transition.
The summit activities included presenting national plans to support the integration of regional electricity networks and the development of solar energy networks to ensure that remote and deprived areas are supplied with energy in an efficient and sustainable manner.
Participating countries also pledged to implement reforms in several key areas, including low-cost energy generation, regional energy integration, increasing access to energy, enabling private investment, and enhancing facilities.
It concluded with the signing of the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, in which African leaders committed to expanding access to energy, promoting the use of renewable energy, and stimulating private investment.
Egypt’s participation in this summit reflects its continued interest in the concerns of the African continent, especially with regard to energy issues.
