Egypt and Shell Review Exploration Plans and Boost Gas Exports at Gastech 2024

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, met with Cederic Cremers, Executive Vice President of LNG at Shell, to discuss the status of Shell’s business and projects in Egypt in the Mediterranean, Red Sea and Western Delta regions.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the minister’s participation in the Gastech2024 conference in the American city of Houston.

The meeting reviewed Shell’s future plans in the field of research and exploration and its interest in obtaining new exploration areas, especially in the Mediterranean Sea, in light of the recent global bid round and the investment opportunities available on the Egypt Upstream Gateway (EUG), and within the framework of its efforts to increase production rates.

The industry leaders also discussed ways to accelerate the completion of the evaluation of the western Mediterranean regions after processing the seismic data and the plan to put the first well in North Cleopatra and North Marina into production in the current fiscal year 2024/25.

Cremers highlighted Shell’s full commitment to supporting the petroleum sector to receive more gas from the Eastern Mediterranean region for re-export to Europe, to benefit from its role as one of the partners in the Damietta liquefaction plant and within the framework of being an operator of many fields in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
