Egypt Achieves EGP 2.8B in Annual Savings from Flare Gas Recovery Projects

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla highlighted Egypt’s achievement of EGP 2.8 billion in annual savings using recovered flare gases in operations as an alternative to diesel.

He further elaborated that this comes as part of the ministry’s strategy which prioritizes projects that preserve the environment and work to reduce emissions while seeking to improve energy efficiency.

This came as El Molla received a report showing that the Zero Flare gas recovery projects that were implemented included twelve projects in companies, namely: Khalda,  Agiba, Petrobel, Bapetco, Petrosannan, Borg El-Arab Petroleum, ZETCO, Gemsa Petroleum, Norpetco, Petroshahd, Petrosilah, and CORC.

The report also indicated that there are projects being implemented and completed to exploit the torch gas in companies Agiba, Petroshahd, WEPCO, PetroFarah, and APRC.

Coordination is underway to start the second campaign to measure methane emissions in the oil sector starting next May, the report added. It will be an extension of the first campaign that took place in May 2022.

The second campaign aims to measure methane emissions in companies that include Khalda, Petrobel, Bapetco, South Dabaa, Abu Qir, GPC, and AMOC.
