Alaa El Batal, the Chairman of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), has inspected the petroleum projects in Suez including Nasr Petroleum Company (NPC) and Misr Petroleum companies.
The surprise visit comes within the petroleum sector’s strategy of conducting field monitoring of production and service locations.
During the visit, El Batal and his associates followed up on the implementation status of the new Vapor Recovery Unit (VRU) project which aims to boost butane production from condensate distillation with a production capacity of around 320,000 tons per annum (tpa), Chairman of Nasr Petroleum Company (NPC) Mohamed Abdullah explained.
The project’s operating trial phase is expected to commence in December, Abdullah noted.
El Batal also followed up on the new Condensate Distillation Unit (CDU 4) which has a capacity of 1.2 million tons per annum (mtpa), contributing to the increase of naphtha production to around 60% of the number of condensates refined in the unit, thereby raising the production of high-octane gasoline in the Suez region and providing light naphtha and other gases suitable to operate the new butane extraction unit under-construction.
El Batal also inspected the emergency room, which is composed of five rooms, including a SCADA control room linked to the refining SCADA room at the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC).
El Batal underscored the significance of the new projects that effectively contribute to securing the domestic market needs as well as the sustainability of petroleum products to the national economic sectors, stressing the need to adhere to work safety and health regulations and to preserve the environment.
El Batal and his associates also toured the Misr Petroleum Company in Suez where they listened to Ahmed Soliman, the General Director of the Suez region at the Misr Petroleum Company, who explained the work done for updating and developing the alarm and firefighting networks at the company.
Soliman also reviewed the work for updating the internal network and tanks at the depot to ensure that they meet the operational requirements of the EGPC.
El Batal emphasized the importance of digital transformation and to continue implementing it across various petroleum activities particularly in the transportation and trading systems of petroleum products due to its effective role in tightening control and determining the market’s actual fuel needs.
