China’s GEIDC Aiming to Invest in Egypt

China’s Global Energy Interconnection Development Corporation (GEIDC)’s Chairman, Liu Zhenya, told Egypt’s Electricity Minister, Mohamed Shaker, during a meeting in Cairo, that GEIDC is looking to invest in electricity and renewable energy projects in Egypt, Al Borsa reported.

Shaker stated that Egypt is working on developing and improving the electricity sector, mentioning the successful current cooperation with State Grid Corporation of China. He also pointed out that Egypt is willing to increase the collaboration with the Chinese companies in the near future through establishing a power plant with a capacity of 2400 MW in the Ataqa Mountain area  as well as coal-fired stations, adding that Egypt is working to increase the cooperation with China.

In addition, GEIDC representatives made a presentation explaining the activities of the company, highlighting that the company is using the latest technologies in several fields.

The company’s business include connectivity through marine cables, replacing traditional networks with intelligent networks, increasing reliance on renewable energy to meet the demand in Africa, Asia and Europe.
