Cargas Reports 61% Surge in Natural Gas Vehicle Conversions for 2025

The Natural Gas Vehicles Company (Cargas) converted 30,000 vehicles to run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) during 2025, marking a 61% increase compared to the previous year, according to Chairman and Managing Director Mohamed Ismail. At this rate, the company accounted for 41% of the total CNG market, backed by its nationwide network of 56 conversion and maintenance centres.

The results were announced during the company’s ordinary general assembly meeting, which was convened to approve the fiscal year (FY) 2025 results. The meeting was attended by Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, alongside leaders from the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding (EGAS).

During the session, Ismail reported that Cargas posted total sales of 558 million cubic meters (mmcm) of compressed natural gas (CNG) through its 350 fueling stations. This network was bolstered by 28 new stations starting operations during 2025. These operations helped Cargas to exceed its average daily sales of 1.7 mmcm, reinforcing the company’s leadership in the natural gas fueling sector.

Regarding the lubricants segment, the company recorded total sales of 3,567 tons during the year. Cargas pursued a strategic pivot toward high-margin gasoline lubricants, resulting in a 44% increase in sales for those products compared to the previous year.

Badawi emphasized that Cargas plays a pivotal role in supporting the state’s transition toward clean energy and rationalizing traditional fuel consumption. The Minister directed the company to conduct comprehensive market studies to identify high-demand areas for natural gas fueling services and to adopt innovative marketing strategies to target diverse customer segments.

Cargas was established in 1995 as the first specialized Egyptian entity for the CNG automotive industry.

In 2024, Cargas sold 514 mmcm of natural gas and inaugurated 34 new fueling stations, expanding its network to 336 nationwide
