Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi has held a meeting with officials from the French energy giant TotalEnergies.

The TotalEnergies delegation included Thomas Strauss, Managing Director at TotalEnergies Marketing Egypt; and Pascal Breant, Managing Director of TotalEnergies E&P in Egypt.

The meeting reviewed the company’s activities in Egypt and plans in light of the recent bid launched by EGAS for 2024 to search for and exploit oil and gas in 12 sectors in the Mediterranean and the Nile Delta.

During the meeting, Badawi highlighted the importance of the role of modern technologies in opening new horizons for research, exploration, and production through fruitful strategic partnerships and the exchange of expertise and technical and technological capabilities in order to achieve the goals and benefit all parties concerned with these activities.

Badawi stated that such partnerships contribute to implementing the principles of sustainability, operational efficiency, and cost reduction, which achieves greater returns for all.

The minister welcomed the French company’s desire to supply gas produced from Cypriot fields to Egypt, whether to liquefy it in Egyptian liquefaction plants and re-export it or to use some of its quantities to meet part of the local market’s needs.

For his part, Strauss confirmed that the partnership between TotalEnergies and the UAE’s ADNOC in Egypt aims to expand the production, distribution, and export of lubricants and petroleum products in Egypt and the African continent, considering Egypt as a gateway to Africa.

Strauss pointed out the company’s desire to expand its aviation fuel marketing and supply activities, stating that TotalEnergies has a technical center in Egypt for their transport vehicle services as well as a center for training drivers, and considers Egypt a center for its operations in the region.

Meanwhile, Breant confirmed that the company is currently working on evaluating the attractive investment opportunities available in the new tender that Egypt recently launched and identifying the best areas to submit its offers.

Breant stated that TotalEnergies considers supplying gas produced from its fields in Cyprus to Egypt as a primary option and the best from a logistical standpoint.
