Badawi Outlines Egypt’s Mining Modernization Strategy at Riyadh Ministerial Roundtable

Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, joined a high-level ministerial roundtable on January 13 during the fifth edition of the Future Minerals Forum (FMF) in Riyadh to discuss the future of global mineral supply chains.

Chaired by Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Bandar Al-Khorayef, the session convened over 70 senior officials and global industry leaders to address critical infrastructure financing and sustainability standards, according to a statement by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR).

Badawi emphasized that Egypt is actively modernizing its mining legislative framework to attract high-value foreign direct investment (FDI) and align with international best practices.

The FMF, held from January 13 to 15 under the theme “Dawn of a Global Cause,” serves as a primary platform for Egypt to showcase its geological potential and recent regulatory reforms.

During the discussions, Badawi highlighted that previous exchanges at the Riyadh forum have been instrumental in upgrading human capacity-building programs and modernizing Egypt’s mining laws.

The roundtable focused on securing resilient mineral supply chains essential for the global energy transition, with a particular emphasis on transparency and infrastructure development.

Participants underscored the importance of international coordination to overcome shared challenges and reinforce the role of mining as a driver of sustainable economic development.

Egypt’s participation with a high-level delegation underscores its ambition to become a regional hub for mineral exploration, supported by new incentives and a streamlined licensing process intended to de-risk investments for global mining majors.
