Badawi, KPC’s Al‑Sabah Explore Boosting Kuwaiti Investment in Egypt’s Oil, Gas

On the sidelines of his visit to the US, Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, met with Sheikh Nawaf Saud Al-Sabah, Deputy Chairman and CEO of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), to discuss ways to strengthen strategic cooperation in the oil and natural gas sector and increase Kuwaiti investments in Egypt’s energy sector.

KPC is the national oil company of the State of Kuwait. Through an integrated supply chain managed by eight wholly owned subsidiaries, KPC oversees upstream, downstream, petrochemical, midstream, and international operations.

The meeting highlighted promising investment opportunities in the Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea, and Western Desert, with Badawi urging greater participation by KPC and its subsidiaries to boost output and resource utilization. Discussions also addressed leveraging KPC’s expertise in major regional projects, particularly in the Eastern Mediterranean, to enhance Arab energy market integration and energy security.

The minister reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to strengthening its role as a regional energy hub through its strategic location, advanced infrastructure, and partnerships with Arab countries.

The two sides also agreed to expand cooperation in technology, digital transformation, reservoir management, and the use of AI to enhance operational efficiency and increase oil and gas production.

KPC has longstanding ties with Egypt through crude oil supply and storage agreements with the Arab Petroleum Pipelines, the company that operates the Suez–Mediterranean Pipeline (SUMED). KPC’s wholly owned subsidiary, Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (KUFPEC), is active in Egypt’s upstream sector, including participation in the Mina West gas project in the Mediterranean.
