Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi held a meeting with IWAI Fumio, Japanese Ambassador to Egypt, and the accompanying delegation to explore bolstering mutual cooperation among the oil, gas, energy efficiency, and green energy companies and institutions in both countries.
During the meeting, the two leaders agreed to form a joint working team to review means of deepening mutual collaboration, and exchange expertise between the Petroleum Sector and the Japanese institutions in various fields.
Badawi expressed his appreciation for the fruitful and successful cooperation between the petroleum sector and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in the Energy Efficiency Center of Excellence project and working to consolidate this culture due to its important role in reducing consumption and costs.
The Minister also stated that the Egyptian government is working in full agreement to achieve Egypt’s sustainable development goals and that there is close cooperation between the Ministries of Petroleum and Electricity in implementing Egypt’s energy strategy and diversifying the energy mix in a way that allows for a surplus to be provided for value-added industries and export activity, which provides additional financial resources for Egypt in hard currency.
Meanwhile, Fumio stated that Japanese companies are seeking to invest in green energy, especially hydrogen, in Egypt. He also indicated that the second phase of cooperation between the petroleum sector and the Japanese side in energy efficiency will witness the organization of practical training programs in Japan for trainees at the Center of Excellence for Energy Efficiency.
