During his participation in the Hamburg Sustainability Conference, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi gave a speech at the opening of a panel discussion titled “Green Hydrogen: Reshaping Global Value Chains” where he presented Egypt’s efforts to stimulate investments in hydrogen as a promising source for low- carbon energy.
He stressed that these efforts came as part of the government’s interest in attracting more investments in hydrogen and especially green and renewable energies including hydrogen to ensure achieving safe energy transformation while ensuring the availability of energy with safe supplies for all peoples.
Badawi noted that the Egyptian petroleum sector has begun, in partnership with international companies, to invest in implementing green energy projects from hydrogen and green ammonia.
The minister reviewed the most important projects of the Egyptian government in this field by exploiting the available activities of the hydrogen industry value chain in Egypt, including the strategic geographical location, the abundance of renewable energy sources, the strong advanced infrastructure, and the expanded partnerships with global hydrogen technology providers.
He added that Egypt is working on building strong partnerships and regional and global cooperation, especially in hydrogen to support Egypt’s role to become a regional and global hub for the production of green hydrogen and its derivatives to meet the growing demand for energy in Europe.
On the sidelines of the session, Badawi discussed with Joanne Bate, Operations Manager at the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa, opportunities for cooperation in the field of hydrogen as well as in the mining sector in light of South Africa’s extensive experience in this vital sector.
