Badawi: Egypt’s Total Crude Oil Production Exceeds 540,000 bbl/d

Egypt’s total crude oil production has exceeded 540,000 barrels per day (bbl/d), marking a return to growth after a period of decline, Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, said during a meeting with the leadership of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC).

Badawi praised the efforts of EGPC and its affiliated companies for the increase, emphasizing their role in increasing production and ensuring secure fuel supplies through coordinated efforts across the petroleum value chain, noted a statement by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR).

The Minister reaffirmed that safety remains the petroleum sector’s top priority, stressing that protecting employees at production sites and company facilities is a fundamental responsibility. He also urged workers to prioritize their personal safety outside the workplace.

He called for the continued development of practical ideas and initiatives to overcome operational challenges, attract new investments, increase production, accelerate project execution, and shorten the time required to bring newly discovered fields on stream.

Badawi also highlighted the ministry’s recent efforts, in cooperation with EGPC and the sector’s holding companies, to improve the commercial terms of exploration and production agreements with international partners and investors.

He said the revised framework particularly targets high-risk frontier areas, including the Red Sea, the Western Mediterranean, and the southern Western Desert, where limited infrastructure has historically constrained investment. The measures are intended to encourage companies to increase exploration spending and expand upstream activities.

During the meeting, EGPC CEO Salah Abdel Kerim reviewed the corporation’s ongoing efforts to raise hydrocarbon production, secure domestic fuel supplies, improve the efficiency of transportation, distribution, and refining operations, and expand the output of petroleum products from local refineries.

He said the petroleum sector is fully prepared to meet higher summer demand, building on the successful supply management achieved over the past two years.

Abdel Kerim added that the ongoing gasoline complex project at Cairo Oil Refining Company (CORC) is expected to increase gasoline production by around 2,000 tons per day starting in August. The additional output is projected to reduce Egypt’s fuel import bill by about $70 million per month.

In November 2025, Badawi said Egypt’s crude oil production had stabilized at around 540,000 bb/d in February 2025 after declining from about 600,000 bbl/d, as new drilling and field development activities began gaining momentum.
