Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi has met with high-level parliamentary delegation headed by the First Deputy Speaker of the parliament Ahmed Saad El-Din looking into the draft law regulating the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority (EMRA), currently being discussed in Parliament in the House of Representatives, aims to transform it into an economic authority.
The draft law pays attention to activating the role of EMRA in a greater manner that is consistent with the state’s objectives of optimal exploitation of mineral resources for the benefit of the Egyptian economy, as transforming it into an economic authority will provide the flexibility, requirements and resources necessary to launch its role in developing mineral resources and removing obstacles in this field.
During the meeting, Badawi appreciated the representatives’ keenness to participate in the expanded meeting with local and international mining industry investors, stressing that the current stage is witnessing the highest levels of integration between the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) and the House of Representatives towards taking the necessary legislative measures and amendments to create a stimulating environment for investors in the mining sector, which contributes to launching this sector and increasing its contribution to the national product.
Also, Saad El-Din praised the MoPMR role and commitment to implementing its program to develop the mining sector and remove challenges facing investment, which it announced before the parliamentary committee formed to study the government’s program.
