At the conclusion of his participation in the ADIPEC 2025 Exhibition and Conference in Abu Dhabi, Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, met with executives and leaders of U.S Bechtel Corporation, China’s United Energy Group (UEG), Norwegian Subsea7, and U.S S&P Global. The meetings discussed strengthening existing partnerships and exploring new opportunities in oil, gas, and energy transition projects.
Badawi met with Paul Marsden, President of Bechtel Corporation to review the progress of joint cooperation in several new refining projects, as well as the successful launch of Egypt’s first specialized school for safety and risk management in Ain Sokhna.
In this respect, Badawi praised Bechtel’s efforts in supporting safety programs across the petroleum sector and expressed his interest to replicate the safety school model in other regions, while continuing cooperation with ENPPI and PETROJET both domestically and internationally.
During his meeting with Song Yu, Chairman and Executive Director of United Energy Group, Badawi emphasized the importance of intensifying development and production activities in the company’s Western Desert concessions, including Borg El Arab and Abu Sennan.

Badawi also urged the company to push its exploration programs across its current and new blocks through the Egypt Upstream Gateway (EUG). He invited the CEO to attend the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES 2026) as a guest of honor and keynote speaker.
In another meeting, Badawi met with John Evans, CEO of Subsea7, to discuss strengthening cooperation in executing engineering and construction works at offshore oil and gas fields.

The minister highlighted the petroleum sector’s ongoing expansion in natural gas exploration and its efforts to develop the discovered wells. He noted the role of advanced digital solutions in enhancing efficiency and extending the lifespan of production facilities.
Both sides agreed to expand cooperation into low-carbon solutions and energy transition projects, specifically hydrogen, as well as occupational safety and energy efficiency. The minister extended an invitation to the Subsea7 CEO to participate in EGYPES 2026.
Badawi concluded his meetings with a discussion with Daniel Yergin, Vice Chairman of S&P Global. The discussion focused on the future growth prospects of Egypt’s energy sector. Badawi reviewed Egypt’s efforts to intensify exploration and maximize the use of its LNG infrastructure to deliver great value from hydrocarbon resources.

He also highlighted the EUG portal as a digital transformation model that reduces investment risks and attracts capital by digitizing geological data. In this regard, both parties agreed to look into potential collaboration in data analytics, evaluation studies, and consulting in energy and minerals forecasting.
Yergin extended an invitation to Badawi to participate in the CERAWeek global energy conference in the U.S.
