Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, has appointed Ahmed Gaber El Halawany as chairman of the state-owned Petroleum Gases Company (Petrogas), while Zain El Abdeen Ahmed El Saghir was named general manager for occupational health, safety, and environmental protection (HSE) for the company.

The appointments are part of the ministry’s efforts to refresh leadership positions across the petroleum sector, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen the implementation of HSE standards.

El Halawany holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce from Cairo University, which he obtained in 1993. He began his career at the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) in the same year as a specialist and subsequently held several positions within the petroleum sector. He became assistant general manager for oil sales at EGPC in 2010, before being appointed general manager for oil companies’ accounting in 2019. In 2024, he was named an expert at the level of assistant executive vice president for domestic trade at EGPC.

El Saghir holds a bachelor’s degree in science from Al-Azhar University, which he obtained in 2000. He joined the petroleum sector in 2006 as a chemist at Gulf of Suez Petroleum Company (GUPCO) and rose through several positions before becoming assistant general manager for occupational health, safety, and environmental protection at the company in 2020.

Petrogas is a leading distributor of natural gas in Egypt, with a network of facilities and pipelines spanning the country.
