Badawi Appoints New EGAS CEO, Names Senior Advisor

Karim Badawi, the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, has issued a decree appointing Sayed Ahmed Abdel Fattah Selim as Executive Managing Director of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), effective February 1, 2026.

In a related decision, the minister appointed Mahmoud Abdel Hamid Mahmoud Mohamed as an advisor to EGAS upon reaching the legal retirement age, in recognition of his extensive practical and technical experience in the field of production.

Sayed Ahmed Abdel Fattah Selim transitions to EGAS with a proven track record in high-level operations. A 1997 graduate of Suez Canal University, Selim previously served as the Chairman of Rashid Petroleum Company (Rashpetco). His career is marked by significant leadership roles, including Assistant Chairman for Operations and General Manager of Petroleum Engineering, where he specialized in optimizing field performance and production efficiency.

Mahmoud Abdel Hamid Mahmoud Mohamed brings over 34 years of experience to his new advisory role. Before this appointment, he served as the Chairman and Managing Director of Tharwa Petroleum Company and held the top leadership position at EGAS starting in mid-2025. His diverse background includes senior roles at Egyptian Fajr for Natural Gas company and the South Valley Egyptian Petroleum Holding Company (Ganope), with a specific focus on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) importation and pipeline networks.

The new leadership appointments reflect the pivotal role of EGAS in Egypt’s strategy to become a regional center for gas and energy trading. The company is central to managing the nation’s upstream gas exploration and production activities while ensuring a stable supply to meet rising domestic demand.

EGAS is a state-owned entity responsible for managing and developing Egypt’s natural gas sector. Established in 2001, EGAS oversees upstream gas exploration and production activities, coordinates partnerships with international oil companies (IOCs), and plays a central role in supplying the domestic market.
