Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi announced the launch of the activities of the eighth edition of the Egypt International Energy Conference and Exhibition (EGYPES 2025).
EGYPES to be held under the patronage and attendance of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on February 17-19 will be run under the theme of “Building a Secure and Sustainable Energy Future”.
During the press conference held on Thursday at the Ministry of Petroleum’s premises at the New Administrative Capital, Minister Badawi noted that EGYPES 2025 will see the attendance of Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides at the invitation of President El-Sisi.
“Important agreements are expected to be signed to enhance regional cooperation between the two countries in the natural gas field,” Badawi stated, noting that Egypt’s pivotal role as a regional energy hub would enable Cyprus to utilize Egypt’s infrastructure for re-exporting its gas, benefiting both countries economically and attracting investment from global energy companies.
The EGYPES 2025 will also witness the signing of some important cooperation agreements in the fields of energy efficiency and renewable energy as he said.
“This year’s edition of EGYPES will serve as a starting point for a comprehensive view of all energy resources. The Petroleum and electricity sectors will cooperate as one working team to obtain the optimal energy mix for Egypt through integrated work between the two ministries, with a focus on the importance of energy efficiency, preserving resources, and using them properly to secure an added economic value,” said Badawi.
Badawi affirmed that this year’s conference is distinct, showcasing cooperation among various Egyptian ministries and institutions working in the energy sector. Accordingly, the conference will feature a roundtable discussion on the second day under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and led by Minister Badawi and Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Dr. Mahmoud Esmat to discuss means of boosting oil and gas production, enhancing dependence on lower carbon projects, and investing in renewable energy and hydrogen projects. The meeting will also address Egypt’s investment potential and means of enhancing its pioneering role in the region’s field of clean and renewable energy.
In his speech, Badawi commended the efforts of former Minister Tarek El Molla for building a strong infrastructure for the petroleum sector over the past years, which paved the way for achieving the Ministry’s new strategy based on six pillars, the first of which is means of promoting E&P activities to meet the local demand of petroleum products.
The Minister also referred to the plan of boosting the energy mix with a focus on green hydrogen and green ammonia production, which Egypt will seek to become the second biggest in the world soon.
Badawi further stressed the importance of implementing HSE across the energy sector and increasing the GDP of the mining sector from 1% to 5-6%.
EGYPES 2025 will feature over 300 high-ranking officials, industry leaders, and renowned experts as keynote speakers in various sessions. The exhibition is anticipated to welcome 2,500 delegates, offering extensive networking opportunities.
