Aramco Discovers Natural Gas in Four Different Regions of Saudi Arabia

Saudi Minister of Energy Abdulaziz bin Salman announced that Aramco has discovered several natural gas fields in four different regions of the kingdom, Reuters reported citing Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

According to the SPA, the minister elaborated that these fields were found in the central area of the kingdom in the Empty Quarter desert, near its northern border and in the eastern region.

Bin Salman mentioned the names of five of the discoveries which include Shadoon (in the central region), Shehab and Shurfa (in the Empty Quarter, in the southeastern region) Umm Khansar (close to the kingdom’s northern border with Iraq), and Samna (in the eastern region).

The minister did not indicate if these were all the reservoirs that have been found. He also said that Samna and Umm Khansar fields are non-conventional which are usually trapped in tight pore spaces and require special extraction techniques.
