Arab and African Markets Next Stop for CARGAS

Natural Gas Vehicles Company (CARGAS) is planning to expand into several Arab and African countries by establishing centers specialized in converting gasoline‑fueled vehicles to natural gas, said Khaled Raslan, the company’s Chairman and Managing Director.

The announcement came during a meeting between Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and Raslan with other company leaders to discuss ways to expand operations beyond Egypt and strengthen CARGAS’s presence in Arab and African markets.

Raslan outlined the company’s operational objectives as the oldest Egyptian firm specializing in vehicle conversions to natural gas. He revealed plans to expand operations and develop stations equipped with modern systems to transport compressed gas for vehicle fueling, serving areas not connected to gas networks.

Badawi praised CARGAS’s role in advancing the vehicle conversion system inside Egypt, stressing that its efforts have contributed to reducing gasoline consumption, which has positively impacted the import bill.

He urged the company to expand into Arab and African markets, highlighting strong investment potential in African countries that lack fueling stations and conversion centers.

CARGAS was established in 1995. It has converted 258,000 cars to run on natural gas since its inception, reducing about 44,000 tons of carbon emissions. This was achieved through 54 conversion and maintenance centers nationwide. It sold 514 million cubic meters (mcm) of natural gas in 2024, reducing liquid fuel consumption.

Additionally, CARGAS inaugurated 34 new natural gas fueling stations, expanding its network to a total of 336 stations by 2024.
