Affinity V Oil Tanker Refloated After Running Aground at the Suez Canal

Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Chairman Osama Rabie has announced the successful refloating of the Affinity V oil tanker and its navigation movement returned to normal after it ran aground due to a technical issue with the vessel’s rudder, Al Ahram reported.

Rabie elaborated that this malfunction caused the ship to lose its ability to steer and strand in the Suez Canal.

The ship’s destination was Saudi Arabia’s Yanbu Commercial Port and it was coming from Portugal when it ran aground. Immediately after reporting the incident, five tugs and the rescue team were deployed to help refloat the oil tanker upon directives of a formed team headed by the authority chair to handle the situation, Rabie added.
