ADNOC to Accelerate its Zero Carbon Plan

Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, chaired the Executive Committee meeting of the ADNOC Board of Directors.

During the meeting, Al Nahyan approved the company’s accelerated decarbonization plan, which aims to bring forward ADNOC’s net zero target to 2045, from the previously planned 2050 target. The company is set to reach zero methane emissions by the year 2030.

Al Nahyan stated that the new targets mark a new ambitious chapter in the company’s transformational journey to have a lower carbon future. ADNOC has ensured that its long-term strategy has sustainability at its heart. This includes decarbonizing its operations, building a global hydrogen value chain, investing in renewables, deploying innovative climate technology solutions and advancing nature-based solutions such as planting mangroves in the UAE.

During the meeting, Al Nahyan and members of the Executive Committee urged ADNOC to pursue new global partnerships with other energy companies, technology leaders and customers to boost its decarbonization plan.
