The fourth edition of the Egypt International Mining Forum is set to take place on July 15-16 at The Nile Ritz-Carlton in Cairo to explore the challenges, opportunities, and strategies needed to position Egypt as a leading global mining hub. It will host ministers, policymakers, major local and international companies, and investors leading the mining industry.
Organized by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) and inaugurated by Minister Karim Badawi, the forum aligns with MoPMR’s third pillar focused on maximizing the value of Egypt’s mineral wealth and boosting the sector’s contribution to economic growth to 6% by 2030.
Within further efforts to support this move, the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority (EMRA) is being transformed into the Egyptian Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority, an economic entity with an independent structure, to drive sector development, attract foreign investment, and maximize returns from mining activities. Furthermore, new models for gold and mineral extraction, contracts have been developed with Barrick Gold and AngloGold Ashanti—the second and fourth largest mining companies globally, respectively.
The Forum’s strategic conference will include nine panel discussions to discuss the country’s mining roadmap. This year’s ministerial panel discussion will feature Salim Al Aufi, Omani Minister of Energy and Minerals; Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, Jordan’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources; Khalid Battal Al-Najim, Iraqi Minister of Industry and Minerals; Khalid bin Saleh Al-Mudaifer, Saudi Arabian Vice Minister of Mining Affairs; and Polite Kambamura, Zimbabwe’s Deputy Minister of Mines and Mining Development.
Moreover, the technical conference will comprise eight sessions offering an in-depth look at the latest project developments, sustainable best practices, and innovative, cutting-edge technologies and solutions being implemented across the mining, minerals, and metals sector.
