Spot premiums on diesel cargoes and barges held steady at strong levels as tight supplies and demand from Egypt offset the opening of the arbitrage window from the United States, traders said.

Traders said the arbitrage window to import spot diesel from the United States has opened up this week for January as the cold weather and the prolonged aftershock of French refinery strikes pushed up European middle distillate prices.

Egypt issued tender to import gas oil for the first half of 2010.
